About Wind Energy
Between climate change, the cost of living crisis and energy security, the need for renewables is more critical than ever. This has placed an emphasis on the need for more locally produced energy and the lowest-cost option is renewables.
Wind energy is reliable, abundant, and affordable. Scotland has some of the best wind resources in the world, let alone in the UK, and Mid Hill is no exception. According to the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero, 800 megawatts (MW) of wind power came online in the UK in 2023. Currently, there is over 9GW of installed wind capacity across Scotland. The UK has a target of reaching net zero by 2050 and the Scottish government has a target to reach net zero by 2045. These targets will require a significant deployment of onshore wind projects, such as Mid Hill.
According to the Fraser of Allander Institute, by 2022 the renewable energy industry employed more than 42,000 individuals full-time across Scotland. Over 12,000 were employed by the onshore wind industry. Additionally, onshore wind supports an estimated £1.4 billion in gross value added across Scotland every year.
Wind energy is a clean technology that does not produce harmful emissions that contribute to global climate change. Across the United Kingdom, onshore and offshore wind power reduce carbon emissions by over 35 million tonnes. Invenergy’s global clean energy portfolio —which includes over 18,000 megawatts of wind power around the world—offset nearly 60 million tonnes of CO2 in 2023. That’s equivalent to planting 766 million trees. Invenergy is dedicated to being a responsible developer by ensuring regulatory compliance and ethical practices across project development and operations.
